The New Stream Table at BYU!
I love geology! This is my class working with the new stream table just installed at BYU. It is the fourth of its kind in the nation to be installed.
Have fun picking out people you know from BYU campus!
Oh and if you ever want to come see the stream table, I have access and can show you around and how it works! Just let me know. I'd love an excuse to go play with the big sandbox!
How long do you have access for? I don't know if I'll be able to make it down there before the end of the semester. And what do you do with all the sand when you've used it? The colors mix up, so... Just throw it out?
I will have access as long as I'm a student at the Y. So come down whenever! And the sand never gets thrown out. The sand was $10,000. It isn't real sand. Its ground up "salsa bowls" made into different sizes. So the "sand" is all the same density but because of the different particle sizes it sorts itself during the fluvial (river) processes and then we mix it up again when we "reset" the table. We move the plastic "sand" upslope and mix up the particles. And tadah! Its ready to go again!
